The TELUS Webinar Series

The Canadian Artists Network is pleased to partner with TELUS in serving the needs of elder professional artists.

Through the support of TELUS, we are presenting an expanded series of webinars on topics of interest to our community.

A Place to Leave Your Stuff - Part 3

The third edition of our webinar series on artistic legacy preparation will take place on Thursday, October 5th at 1:00 PM Eastern | 10:00 AM Pacific time.

Part 3 will cover taxation issues that artists should be aware of when planning their estates.

This webinar will be led by tax accountant Zoe Klein . She will cover areas such as:

    1. Tax filing in the final year of life and the subsequent 1 to 3 years.
    2. What is an estate, what are the responsibilities of an estate and its’ trustee.
    3. Estate filing requirements.
    4. Art inventory and items held by copyright at death – what happens and how to plan.

Thanks to our friends at TELUS, this webinar is free to members of our Community of artists. Registration is required

Social Media 301

In this, the third in our webinar series looking at what older artists need to know about social media platforms and their potential uses, digital strategist Boyd Neil covers three things: changes in the core social media platforms you should know about; new emerging social media platforms in 2023 (think Mastodon, True, BeReal and Diem); and a quick look at generative AI, including ChatGPT4 and DALL-E 2 (images), their uses, value and ethical issues (Now there are some thorny problems to think about.)

A place to Leave Your Stuff

[With apologies to George Carlin]

End-of-life issues never make for an enjoyable discussion. But, for many artists, it requires extra planning.

A lifetime of created works must be cared for and passed down. Whether it be canvases, books, music, plays, screenplays, designs — even a professional website — their future must be provided for.

Part One – Legal Issues
Thursday, May 25th at 1:00 PM Eastern | 10:00 AM Pacific time
Lawyers Paul E. Bain of Dickinson Wright and Kevin Forrest of AFBS cover wills, executors, powers of attorney, intellectual property and copyright, the burden on heirs, and other legal aspects of preparation.

Part Two – Archiving
Thursday, June 1st at 1:00 PM Eastern | 10:00 AM Pacific time
Marlena Wyman and Leah Murray talk about preserving your works and your online presence, preparing records, what to keep, how to donate.
